Volunteering at Playgroup
ACT Playgroups Association is always on the lookout for anyone happy to volunteer either in our office, or with playgroups.
Seniors
In the ACT people often live far away from their families and retired or semi-retired Canberrans can find themselves isolated from their children and grandchildren. They may also have limited links to their local community, neighbours and friends. ACT Playgroups are happy to link seniors to a playgroup and families in their local area.
Playgroups are informal sessions where parents, caregivers, babies and children aged 0 - 5 come together in a relaxed and friendly environment. Older Canberrans who have some free time and enjoy being with young children are invited to participate. Seniors are encouraged to choose their own role at playgroup which can vary from talking to parents, holding babies to give parents a rest, playing with children, fixing toys or equipment, leading story time or helping with craft/morning tea.

The ACT Playgroups Association is always happy to accept help from its members or from the community to assist in the office, or with events.
The ACT Playgroups Association operates a toy library service where we hire out kits. Assistance in maintaining the kits is welcome. This task includes cleaning toys reapairing toys and sorting kits when they are returned by our members. Having volunteers to assist with this task helps us greatly.
From time to time we have large tasks that require "all hands on deck" to complete. For example, we send a monthy mail out to all our playgroups on the seventh day of each month. This is not a demanding task, but a time consuming one. If you have a spare hour or so why not join us for a cuppa and a biscuit and enjoy a chat with our friendly staff while you stuff some envelopes with us!
Other volunteering opportunities exist to help with our events. We have three main events throughout the year. These are the Playgroup Games in March/April, the Playgroup Expo in October and the Christmas picnic in December. Assistance at these events could include face painting, helping with set up and break down of stalls, helping on stalls, sausage sizzle, etc. So, if you are keen to help us to put on even better events, we welcome your assistance.
